A massive congratulations to Arcade Fire for their tremendous win last night at the 53rd Grammy Awards. It’s quite incredible to see all this unfold. Reminded me of that year where Elliott Smith was nominated at the Oscars for best song in a film, competing against giant divas. I decided to record a demo acoustic version of Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains). I texted my friend Dounia (who happens to be Arcade Fire’s assistant manager) last night after the ceremony. I could just imagine her backstage hanging out with “The Music Machine” as her humble self. Such a warm image. I don’t believe a Montreal artist has ever won best album of the year. Maybe Celine. But I guess that’s what makes this so huge. Bands like Arcade Fire aren’t expected to win grammys. Especially not the most important one. I can’t imagine The Strokes, Pixies or Phoenix ever taking that kind of award from Eminem or Beyonce. It just feels strange. But last night…it happened!
